Replacement cylinder leak tester for Calvan 38900, also known as Snap On FRT10-1. Eliminates the need to remove to the valve cover to determine the valves are closed. Commonly used with the Calvan 38900, Time Sert 5553, 5600 and Calvan 39300 3V kits. Can be used with other thread repair kits also. Used on sparkplug holes that have a "well". Helps prevent valve damage caused by reaming/drilling and tapping with the valves open and also helps to isolate the cylinder being worked on. Debris can then be removed with compressed air without being blown past the valves. *Not for use when spark plug holes are near the surface.  

 
See the video below showing the leak detector popping out when the valves are closed. At 4:05 minutes in the hose pops out. This tool can be used on any engine that has a spark plug well to determine the valves are closed prior to repairing a spark plug hole. We have many TIME-SERT customers that purchase this leak detector when working on other vehicles for this reason. It saves time compared to pulling the valve cover to examine the cam lobes to verify the valves are closed. *Check position of the piston before drilling/reaming to ensure there sufficient clearance. 
 
 
Below is a more recent video showing the 389-4000 being used. Unfortunately the valves were bent because the vehicle owner had left a Sav A Thread tap in the hole and started the engine bending the valves! Stopper will pop out in normal conditions when valves are closed.

    Very convenient tool, fits in the top of the spark plug/coil tube and pops out under air pressure when the valves are fully seated. The only problem I ran into is that the male air fitting is not easily interchangeable. The threads are smaller than standard 1/4" NPT and thus the fitting could not be replaced with any of my regular Milton male couplings. I had to change out the female coupling on my air hose before I could use the Calvan tool, then swap couplings again to use my air ratchet.

    This tool is perfect! Fool proof 15 second way to ensure the valves are closed to do spark plug thread repair. Don't have to remove valve covers.
