TIME-SERT 5588 Triple Oversize Spark Plug Thread Repair Add-on Kit

Add on Kit for 5553 - This is a special kit that is used in conjunction with the p/n 5553 or 5141E. You must have 1 of these kits above to finish this repair. The kit will repair holes as large as .720 inches by installing a special M18x1.5 I.D. insert p/n 55522, that will accept 3/4 reach M14x1.25 inserts. Measurement on the outside of the threads of the oversize insert is .76" or 19.30mm. My 2005 F150 XLT blew out the #4 plug recently (see my review of the Time-Sert 5553 kit). While checking the other cylinders prior to ordering tools, I found the #3 plug came out with a Calvan insert still attached to the plug! The instructions were a little confusing because the printed instructions that came with the kit were slightly different from the web site vs the Time-Sert web site. This was really only for the first step where the counter bore tool was required for the RF-1L2E heads on my truck. Since the previous insert repair had removed the sparkplug chamfer, you have to make sure you measure the distance the counter bore tool is cutting so you don't cut deeper than required. My truck has been back on the road for about a month now and I am fairly confident this is a permanent fix. I feel better about this insert for the fact that you cold roll both inserts into place causing them to spread out into the head so it doesn't back out. I will definitely check out Wiseautotools.com for any special tools that may be required in the future.
Used the 5588 ad on kit to fix threads in an Expedition that had a previous repair done with a Dorman parts store repair that left the hole too big for my 5553 kit. Excellent instructions, great kit saved my customer a lot of money!
Already had a Time Sert 5553 kit that has always worked great up until a 2002 Ford F150 with a 5.4L came in the shop that had previously been "fixed" with a Dorman "HELP" thread repair fitting and long spark plug. Obviously since I'm writing about this, the Dorman failed in a big way. I tried the 5553 but the hole was just too big! Found the add on kit 5588 for my 5553 and this triple oversize kit was just the ticket. Back in business in about an hour. Happy customer because I save their cylinder head. I have a 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a Triton v-10. I have used the 5553 Sert kit to fix 3 blown plugs and what a fantastic kit. Everything with the kit and instructions worked flawlessly. I made a major mistake the other day when trying to add an insert and did not realize there was a steel insert from someone one else's fix before I owned the truck. Needless to say the Steel Sert (not a time sert) dropped down in the #7 hole on top of the piston. Of course the sert would not come out the same hole because it was not large enough. I looked on the Time Sert website and read a review of someone else having the same problem, but they were able to fix it with the 5588 oversize add on kit along with the 5553. Since I already had the 5553, I bought the 5588 add on kit and without going into a lengthy letter, I must say the kit worked great the steel sert came out the oversize hole (with a magnet) and again the kit did everything exactly the way the instructions said it would. My V-10 purrs along just like it should and if it ever blows another plug I know exactly what to do to fix it with the Time Sert Kit. FYI - if you don't have the 5553 but need the tripleoversize insert kit, the Time Sert 5600 is the stand alone kit. Dave
