Question - Why is there a chunk missing out of the side of the insert?
Answer - The piece missing is NOT a defect. Time-Sert calls this part of the insert the "socket with metal locking pin". It is an engineered locking design. Once the insert is installed with the driver, the locking pin is pushed out and locks the insert into place. This creates a "cam lock" which helps to insure the insert will NOT back out.

I've been wrenching for 30 years and this was the first time I've had to perform this repair. It was straight forward. The instructions combined with the YouTube video was all anyone should need. Very effective process and technique. I did not grease the flutes, I opted for vacuum with air compression after each stage with a post bore-scope inspection.
I used this tool to repair my 2002 Ford F150 with 5.4 liter Triton engine. Although not inexpensive, this tooling is high quality and gave me confidence that the repair would be a long term fix. I currently have almost 1000 miles on the repair (blown spark plug on cylinder #7) and so far no problems. Dennis at Wise Auto Tools was very helpful and his videos on these tools were a very decisive factor in choosing this kit.
