The Cal-Van Tools Three-Valve (3V) Ford Triton Spark Plug Insert Installer Kit. *NOT for 2V engines! If working on a 2-Valve engine see the 38900. PN 39300 is designed to install replacement steel alloy thread inserts on Ford 3V 5.4L and 6.8L engines that are 3V and use the following M16x1.5 spark plug.
Many times when removing spark plugs that typically bread upon removal, the threads may be damaged. When this kit is used the cylinder heads can be serviced in the vehicle saving the vehicle owner thousands of dollars! This also eliminates a long "down time" for the vehicle.
Since steel alloy has a much higher tinsel strength when compared to aluminum, the result is a much stronger set of threads that will likely last the life of the vehicle. This spark plug thread insert kit will allow the user, by using the simple step-by-step instructions (see the video below) to repair damaged threads or spark plug blowouts in 30 minutes or less per cylinder. For replacement inserts see the M16x1.5 393-100 product listing which is also the same for the Snap On Blue Point FRT12 kit Snap On/Blue Point FRT12-INS. *Note we recommend using the Calvan 389-4000 Leak Detector which is available separately, to help determine that the valves are closed before working on the spark plug hole. This helps to prevent valve damage and isolates the cylinder so chips can be blown out without forcing debris further into the engine.
Ford 3 Valve Engines with M16x1.5mm Spark Plugs - Please verify engine is 3V with M16 plug. After engine manufacturer date of 11/30/07 (found on cam cover) it's likely that you have a 12mm spark plug. If a M12x1.25 kit is needed see our 4212H. Note; We have had several customers concerned because the spark plug seems to go too deep into the insert when they try the spark plug in the insert prior to working on the vehicle. This is because the point at which the spark plug actually "seats" is NOT in the insert, it's in the "head".

If you own or work on 5.4 3 valve Ford engines its a must have tool for spark plug hole repairs. You can repair a stripped or damage spark plug hole in less then 20 minutes.
Great tool will recommend tool inserts bad design but is worth it n need the JB weld along with it . From Management: Thanks for the review. We've been selling these kits with the inserts as they are since 2005 with no issues. We offer 8297 JB Weld and Seal Tite as well as the E-clip for the tap.
Ford acted like they never heard of a plug blowing out of the engine F150 3-valve Triton. Ford said $6000.00 to fix. I researched this tool $147.00 best money I've spent worked like a charm engine runs better than ever. Maybe Corporate Ford should purchase for all there shops
Great kit but a bit incomplete without the Calvan 389-400 cylinder leak tester and the JB Weld pn 8297. Would have gave it a 5 if it came with these essential items.

I ordered this kit after I had a plug break that left the threaded part in the head. Drilled it out with 1/2" bit deep enough for the reamer in this kit to work. Reamed the hole out and used a Lisle tool to get the electrode out before using the tap and installing the insert. Worked like a champ and saved me many dollars over what the dealership wanted to charge. Great video and tips available with this kit make it easier that I expected.
Worked like a charm. I took my time and had the insert installed in 30 minutes. I recommend it to anyone who has stripped the threads in the spark plug hole. Take your time, follow directions and you'll be up and running in no time.
